Hunter Information

Below is some general information about the hunting season as well as a Hunter Information Sheet that we need completed for every member of your party so we may prepare for your upcoming hunt. 

Guided hunters MUST check-in by 4 pm on your arrival day.  A mandatory meeting with the guide staff for all guided hunters will be held at 4:30 pm, before dinner, in the back room of the restaurant. 

Throughout the week there will be breakfast each morning from 4:30–7:00am.  You will be preparing your own bag lunches every morning while at the lodge for breakfast: an assortment of deli meats, cheeses, breads and wraps, condiment packets, dinner leftovers (when available), and sandwich components will be available to you along with bottled water, fresh fruit, chips, and cookies.  Dinner will be served until 9 pm each night.

Lodging Check-In Time:

Check in by 4 pm.  The orientation meeting with the guides is at 4:30pm followed by dinner.

All full week hunting packages begin with Sunday arrival and end with Friday departure; Lodging may be available at discounted rates for the Saturday before or the Friday after your hunt.  Please call our office for rates and availability.  We do recommend advance reservations.       

Directions:

All hunters gather at the Northern Outdoors lodge at 1771 US Route 201, The Forks, Maine. 

From the South:

Exit 133 off of I-95.  Take Route 201 north, through Skowhegan, Solon and Bingham.  Northern Outdoors’ Resort Center is 18 miles north of Bingham on Route 201.  The lodge is on the right-hand side of the road.

From the West:

From the NH Border, take Route 2 east to Skowhegan.  Then follow Route 201 north through Solon and Bingham.  Northern Outdoors’ Resort Center is 18 miles north of Bingham on Route 201.  The lodge is on the right-hand side of the road.

License Information

You MUST purchase your Big Game Hunting License prior to your guided hunt at Northern Outdoors by visiting the State of Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife website at www.maine.gov/ifw. We no longer provide services at Northern Outdoors to purchase your license in person. However, we do have a computer for guest use located in the main lodge and are willing to assist, if necessary. The non-resident license is $115.

You may also purchase a license at Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine or L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine.

Requirements for obtaining a license

Applicants for an adult hunting license must show proof of having previously held an adult license to hunt with firearms in any year beginning with 1976 or successful completion of an approved hunter safety course from this or any other state. Residents must provide proof of residency when applying for a license.

Lodge hunt is 6-7 hunters per guide

Fluorescent Orange 

Anyone who hunts any species during the deer rifle season must wear 2 articles of hunter orange clothing.  One article must be a solid-colored hunter orange hat…No camouflage allowed on your head.  The second article must cover a major portion of the torso (such as a jacket, vest, coat or poncho) and must be a minimum of 50% hunter orange in color.  Therefore, you may wear a camouflage vest, but it must be at least 50% hunter orange.
